There are several - many! - surprisingly dark moments, with characters and emotions that feel real. While I'd never pretend to be some all-knowing reader who can spot every potential twist coming a mile off, the story did catch me completely off guard with a twist that I didn't see coming more than once. The whole thing feels very polished and professional; the UI design works well, and the sound and music do a good job of helping set the scenes too.Mechanically it's interesting too, with twenty-one choices through a linear path, and five endings which are dependent on the choices you took - but the game is quite open with the progress screen showing you which levels of affection will result in which endings. Means you can fully and easily (with a little thought) explore the tale yourself, without needing to rely on a third-party walkthrough. If you're looking for a nice, fluffy, pick-me-up sort of tale, I have to be honest - this is probably not what you seek. But if you've a mood to read something that's well thought through, well put together, and with challenging moments and dark twists - grab yourself a copy.Recommended.(My read time shows as relatively low, because I mostly read it on a Windows tablet that was offline, thus not clocking up the hours - but I have completely read the whole thing!). This is a wonderful Visual Novel. The art is adorable and the music is stunning! I love music with oriental themes to it and they fit the style of the novel completely. I wasn't expecting to become so attached to Bibi and Yoyo and I'm not going to lie, I shed some tears... quite a few. It's difficult for a VN to make me cry and Katawa Shoujo has been the only one to succeed up until now. I reccomend this game, 100%. It has a touching story of two races at war and the children that get caught up in the traditions and ancient beliefs of the adults. The style this is done in as wonderful and I am in love with those two cuties. Choices are also good and relitvely frequent with a nice UI to boot. 9\/10 ~ because there's always room to grow ;w;. The Last Birdling is one of the most fantastic VN's I've read. Every character is packed with personality, and throughout the story it's a treat to see how everyone changes (or doesn't change). And even though it's only a few hours to reach an ending, it feels so much longer than that. Props to InvertMouse for telling such a moving tale.. The Last Birdling is another masterpiece created by InvertMouse! The seemingly innocent concept as a forbidden friendship between two young girls of different races escalates to a heavy story with a few dark twists, but also very emotional and heartwarming. Excelent writing, beautiful art and soundtrack, multiple choices and endings combine into an unforgettable experience.. In its core this game is a blend of some of the stronger Point&Click games and VNs here on Steam, mixed with an anime art style. If you have enjoyed VNs with multiple endings set in fanatsy worlds, this one could be for you.Initially drawn in by the defined art style and promising concept, this VN proved to be so much more. The story is unique compared to other works here on Steam and shines with its surprises and immersion. It combines both emotions and violence and offers surprising twists and shed tears. Both main characters have unique traits and are very round characters. Although some may not enjoy the concept of reading about the stories of young children and their development into adults, think about Telltale's The Walking Dead. Choices affect the characters' development and reveal different sides, which ultimately changes the ending. Be warned: There is no definite ending to this game. You'll have to live with your choices. A VN for everybody who enjoys the anime art style but doesn't necessarily want to rely on the typical anime content (cute girls, girl on girl, silly plot and weak development). Unique story line, surprises and a strong, independent voice as a writer come together in this violent but fantastic novel. I highly recommend!. This 7th visual novel from InvertMouse feature two female protagonists - a human girl Tayo and a Birdling girl Bimonia who encounter each other in the forest while in their childhood years and form an unlikely friendship. Amidst the backdrop of a massive fear and dislike of each other between humans and Birdlings after a war which left only Bimonia and her mother Lulululu as the last Birdlings alive and living near human habitation together with multiple grey shades of morality among humans and Birdlings, Tayo and Bimonia's friendship and survival will be put to the test in this thriller and horror visual novel over 21 chapters as Tayo and Bimonia grow up to adulthood and reach different phases of their lives. The game has plenty of save slots to allow different gameplay choices to be made during the game, with popup icons of a red\/green feather and a portrait of Bimonia\/Tayo to help players reach all the 5 possible endings where the number of red and green feathers required to reach each ending will be shown. Soundtracks, artwork and overall game presentation are good. Recommended with soundtrack and artbook DLC when at discount or bundle offer as it takes less than 10 hours to reach all endings.(Also recommended to download and finish the demo version of this game before buying this game and adding to library for an additional easy to finish 100% completed game). I'm not great at writing reviews but here I go anyway.First off, I highly recommend it. It's a bit on the shorter side compared to some other VNs, but the quality is very high, and it is very much worth the money and time. The Last Birdling is a VN about two children, one human and one not. Their species hate each other, and kill each other on sight. A birdling child is playing in the forest one day when a human child approaches her, and the two become friends. They struggle to keep their friendship intact and secret from the humans, against increasingly poor odds.It took me about two and a half hours to get my first ending (though it took me 30 minutes to finish the demo, and I fast forwarded through the "demo chapters" once I played the main game, so assume about 3 hours for your first run if you read fast like I do).. First non-pre release (?) review for one of the best visual novels I played in my life. This was one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read with a lot of endings based on a variety of choices and a 21 chapter over 3 hour story of heart-pounding action and tear-jerking moments.I can't describe how beautiful the plot and the writing style as well as the art and music was.Great visual novel easily worth 5 times the price. 5th anniversary project? No you mean masterpiece - probably gonna be your visual novel magnum opus Invertmouse and I am not just praising you. :-)I am still feeling emotional from acheiving what I consider the true ending. <33
